Phatmoto Powered Gas Bike

Phatmoto is a bicycle powered by a 79cc 4-stroke gasoline engine producing about 3hp of power. Built on a lightweight aluminum frame, reminiscent of Cruiser Beach Bicycles design with the addition of a 0.75gl (2.85lt) capacity fuel tank, it enough to give you 100 miles average riding with a full tank. Indeed, it is an average measure because there are many conditions affecting the performance. The weight of the driver, The slopes on the road, aggressive driving style, among others.

EPA/Carb Compliant

Gasoline-powered bicycles, unlike electric bicycles, must comply with certain emission regulations that you need to know and which you should consult in your area. This will force you to do a proper maintenance and tuning of the engine as any other vehicle that consums fossil fuel. However, in the case of the Phatmoto Bike, due the incorporation of a 4-stroke engine, this is not a complicated task and can be done in your own garage with a few essential tools.

4Stroke vs 2 Stroke

Unlike the 2-stroke engine, the 4-stroke cycle is less noisy, less vibrations on the chassis, cleaner, and requires maintenance at longer time intervals. The 2-stroke engine virtue over the 4-stroke engine is, in essence, the ability to deliver more power because it use a single turn of the engine to generate power, meanwhile the 4-stroke engine needs 2 turns. On the other hand, the 2-stroke engine produces much more smoke emissions because the oil to keep the engine lubricated is mixed with the fuel it uses to run, additionaly it is noisier and dirtier but for lovers of motor bikes with Gasoline, everything that may sound like a disadvantage, is music to their ears.

Great Value for the Price

But certainly, if you are the kind of people looking for the comfort and versatility on a motorized bicycle as a reliable way of transport, the Phatmoto is precisely what you should bet on.

Depending on the price, for $ 800 that the Phatmoto costs, you will hardly find on the market an electric bicycle that has, above all, the same performance in power. Although it is true that you must refuel gas on average every 100 miles of riding, your electric counterpart needs to recharge the battery every 30 miles, that is, approximately 3 charges per fuel tank. And although it’s true, recharges can be cheaper with respect to the price of fuel, batteries have a limit of use and as the time pass, their efficiency also decreases.

phatmoto gas bike

Electric bikes have developed a lot in recent years regarding battery technology and engine efficiency and it’s true, in some point, for the same price, it will be possible to find a more powerful and reliable counterpart than any gas powered one. While the industry continues to evolve, today the Phatmoto is an excellent alternative for performance lovers who appreciate all the benefits that an internal combustion engine can offer.

The perfect bike for improvement lovers

Indeed, if you are a weekend mechanic and you like to spend time making improvements or small repairs to your car, it is very possible that you will find in the Phatmoto a great way to channel the sportsmanship, making improvements to the engine and chassis and making your riding experience a pleasure!

The Phatmoto’s engine has an 8:1 ratio, 3600 rpm max, uses 87 octane gasoline and features the camshaft on the block (OHV). The total weight is around 32kg which allows it to be carried even by a woman with medium contexture. To start the engine, it has a pull-start handle and the clutch is centrifugal, which will allow the engine idle runs freely and only deliver the power to the wheels once the rotation is increased using the throttle.

Phatmoto let you ride on any kind of road

In summary, if you have in mind to buy a gas motorized bicycle for personal use as a means of transport to the office, the store or just for a walk around, the Phatmoto is an excellent alternative for its clean and smooth operation. Additionally, if you have the sports vein and the “Do-it-yourself” blood, this bike will give you many hours of fun.

    The frame is most impressive.

Most everything else can and should be upgraded, especially the totally inadequate BRAKES.

Set up as a single speed, and the fact that the sprocket for the motor drive does not freewheel, no one will be pedaling this bike more than half a block before they give up trying.

The is suspension on front forks, they are of dubious value.

Then there is the sever lack of speed or torque.
Bypassing the governor help a lot in getting tbe bike near to the claimed top speed of 25.
The seat is hard as a rock and almost as comfortable to sit on.

Is a great idea, but not executed as well as could have been.

I bought the 2020 Rover. While the carb has a vacuum leak and will not run without the choke open, still enjoy the bike. I bypassed the govern and can get to 32 mph. As with any motored bicycle upkeep is a weekly thing tightening nuts and bolts. Brakes work fine they need adjustments from time to time. What you get for the money is pretty damn good. If something breaks I just upgrade it. Enjoy the bike very much.

+ PROS: Package deal. Better than the bolt a motor kits by far that nickel and dime you to death.
    - CONS: Not many upgrades available. In my case a carb that has an elusive vacuum leak.

I’ve had the Rover 2019 for about 6 months now and overall I’m generally pleased with the performance of the bike it by far blows out and electric bikes I’ve seen by far. I did do the govenern bypass which definitely added top end speed as well as lowering the sprocket size in the rear which affected the low end speed just a little.Turned the exhaust from forward to back facing why make it harder to let the engine expell exhaust added some venting holes in the cover to help keep the engine cool, larger handlebars for better control definitely at higher speeds.Rear brakes are a joke and pads wear to nothing in just one trip and that haz led to some scary moments on the road, clutch sticks occasionally but wasn’t to much a hassle just needed some lube on the shaft.Definately worth every penny and is a major eye candy bike and show stopper. Being that I’m the only person in the Imperial Valley CA that has one and its internal tank and yellow paint as well as car acceleration at stop signs and red lights
